Our Nursery

Clients who live locally are welcome to view our chicks on appointment, but for those who are interested and live a distance away I have developed this page so that you may have an idea of the luxury and comfort our chicks are raised in. Only the best is good enough.

Our purpose build brooders keeps the chicks warm, happy and allows them to see us all the time. They are not kept seperately in individual containers, but rather mixed together with other bird species. This is to allow them to get familiar with other birds, clients and my family.

By the time the chicks are ready to be homed, they are well socialized and desensitized and will not be as stressed about new faces and new animals.

When the chicks are old enough, usually 5-6 weeks old they are moved to training cages where they will learn to perch and eat solid foods.

Our chicks are happy, loving and well behaved babies. We raise them the same way that you would raise your child. With a strict routine and calm loving environment they grow into the most loving and well socialized birds. The first 6 weeks of a chicks life determines the kind of pet that you would have.

Don't make the mistake to buy your parrot from a pet shop or breeder that have them on a "factory production line". Chicks in pet shops are weened and most probably stressed from all the noise and activity in the shop. The perfect age to buy and bring home your chick is while it is still on 2-3 hand fees per day and approximately 6 - 8 week old.

Don't purchase from a breeder/pet shop that can't at least supply you with a guide, manual or instructions on what to do, what to expect, what to look out for, when to panic and the contact details of an Avian Vet.

At The Parrot Farm we are available 24/7 on Whats app, phone and e-mail should you have any questions, concerns or problems. You will receive manuals on how to care for, feed and exactly how ween your chick off the handrearing formula.
